I admit I have very limited understanding of evolution by natural selection so please excuse any ignorance on my part. I have just begun reading "On the Origin of the Species" and it has occurred to me that humans can't evolve any further (or so I think). My understanding is that in nature, the genes that are most beneficial to preserve life are the ones that get passed down because there holders are the ones who survive to mate. In the human race though, in this day and age, we help the weak. If someone is born with some kind of genetic weakness they are not left to die, we help them and they reproduce just the same as everybody else. In fact, by observation it seems to me that it is generally the people of lower intelligence that breed like rabbits. Can anyone explain why it is predicted that the human race will continue to evolve?
Thanks.
